Russian Wedding traditions. There are couple traditions that are common mainly among Russian and Slavic cultures, but probably interesting for some to learn about for their uniqueness. First of all, Russian weddings are traditionally celebrated for at least 2 days and up to a whole week. Then, after the formal ceremony they let out two doves outside the church to symbolize their love and partnership. Formerly, the civil ceremony follows where they are pronounced a husband and a wife legally. After that, most couples travel around historical sites in their city and go to the place of reception, where they are greeted with bread and salt as a new family. Both, the newlyweds by the custom must bite a piece of bread without use of their hands and whoever bites the bigger piece is considered to be the head of the household (mainly jokingly but hey, who knows lol).
